The event recognized those who dedicate their time and talent to providing food, resources, education and serving food lions to neighbors struggling with food insecurity in towns and cities.

The Food King Award – Metrolina’s Second Harvest Food Bank (Charlotte, NC)

This award, presented to a Food Lion supplier, recognizes Food Lion Feeds’ outstanding commitment to partnering with and participating in hunger-relief projects. A thought leader in the industry, Schuman Farms conducts corporate outreach initiatives by inspiring and encouraging families in all aspects of health: nutrition, mental health, physical fitness and overall wellness. Through its various charitable projects and programs, Schuman Farms has donated over 12 million meals to Feeding America since 2002. He created the Healthy Families Project initiative to encourage the produce industry to come together to create a healthier generation and raise funds for community outreach. The Lion Pride Award – Joyce Harbin, Regional Recruitment Specialist (Elizabeth City, NC)
The award honors a Food Lion associate who demonstrates outstanding skill in coordinating and motivating store associates and volunteers for hunger-relief projects for the benefit of Food Lion Feeds and its affiliated food banks. Herbin led field efforts to encourage Food Lion neighbors to buy more than 20,000 citrus bags, the equivalent of 100,000 meals. The Store That Roars Award – Food Lion at 620 Laura Duncan Road, Apex, NC 27502
The award honors a Food Lion store that demonstrates outstanding skill in coordinating and motivating store associates, customers, and volunteers to participate in hunger-relief projects for the benefit of Food Lion Feeds and its affiliated food banks. . The store was chosen for its exceptional team of associates to help combat food insecurity. The Silver Plate Award – Peggy Dooley-Isley, Community Relations Specialist (Salisbury, NC)

Food Lion associate Peggy Dooley-Isley, who retired in May, is known for 37 years serving Food Lion communities. Through his dedicated service, he helped develop Food Lion’s Food Rescue program, where food is donated to neighbors before it perishes.
